It starts from the very early phase of selecting raw materials, continued in the work process and ends not until products are delivered to the market, of which every step adheres to a set specification and inspected down to the details.

Our inspection of tobacco, clove and flavorings highlights on the material’s active ingredients, aside from bare-eye observations. Physical qualities such as stalk position, color and aroma, as well as chemical composition qualities of nicotine, reducing sugar and chloride, plus smoke character have been the key parameters in determining the quality of our cigarette. Bentoel only processes high quality local tobacco such as those from Madura, Paiton, Jember, Temanggung, Weleri, as well as imported ones from USA, Brazil, Izmir, China, Burley. In addition to that, our quality cloves from Manado, Bali and Java help to ensure the perfect result of cigarette manufacture.. Meanwhile, non-tobacco parts are examined in its most critical specifications such as paper porosity, pressure drop and draw filter.

During work in process of finished blend tobacco, we would examine physical qualities (water content level, structure, filling power), and chemical content (nicotine, reducing sugar, chloride). In a bid to assure the quality of taste and aroma, our Bentoel Internal Panelist team is ready to do the quality check and also takes into account non-conformance consumer’s index and organoleptic standard.

Meanwhile, our end products are tested physically (weight, pressure drop/ draw, ventilation, diameter) aside from enduring smoke tests (tar and nicotine delivery). We also carry out visual inspection that includes Non-Conformance Consumer’s Index (NCCI) and sensory evaluation.

In preparing ourselves for the rapid globalization, we have also received the ISO 9001: 2000 for the Certificate for Quality Management Systems and national standard SNI 19-17-25-2000 for the Accreditation for Smoke Test Laboratory. By conforming to high standards, our test results are recognized by certified national and international laboratories like the Asia Pacific Laboratory Accreditation Cooperation (APLAC), the International Laboratory Accreditation Cooperation (ILAC) and European Accreditation for Laboratory (EAL), as well as the National Accreditation Committee under which cooperation with all the international bodies above is done through the Mutual Recognition Agreement (MRA).

In further maintaining the customer’s satisfaction, we also carry out the periodical Monthly Monitoring and Benchmarking on Product Quality in the market. We also provide an accommodating consumer communication line through our PO BOX CS 9999 MLG 65100, where consumers can pass on suggestions, criticism as well as complaints to us for further follow up to assure that we provide satisfactory products.

The recapitulated data of benchmarking and consumer response (PO BOX, SMS, product complaints) would serve as parameters of our quality.
