Bentoel actively supports activities related to building a good corporate citizenship in Indonesia. We believe that every Company should be committed to conduct its business in a responsible manner. For us, this includes our conduct to stakeholders such as business partners, governments and the surrounding community where we operate

We are committed to support surrounding community where we operate

As corporate citizens of Malang where our factories operate, we are committed to support the local community and charitable projects. Our community and charitable contributions are focused to address local needs and aspirations, amongst them are in the area of education, health care, disaster relief and other contributions to the local community

Bentoel Medical Centre (BMC)

As part of our commitment to the local community, the Bentoel Medical Centre (BMC) held various communityl activities including:

  • Quarterly Blood Donor Drives with an average of 60 participants from the employees and the public;
  • First Aid Courses for Malang Town Square in which the participants were from PT Mahakam’s outsourced employees;
  • Community involvement on laboratory (blood) test with a group of elderly from the district of Bale Arjosari with 60 participant;and
  • Providing services of mass circumcision where 53 children participated from Malang Raya and the surrounding areas


Bentoel Medical Center

Disaster Relief

Bentoel Peduli (Bentoel, Yes We Care) is another community program aimed at providing emergency support and help for national disaster’s victims. In 2009, through Bentoel Yes We Care, we supported the earthquake victims in Tasikmalaya and Padang where the Bentoel Medical Centre despatched  doctors and medical staffs to the site of the disaster. We also provided other basic support for the victims such as food, drinks and medicines.

Education

In the area of education where Bentoel sees as a long term support to build knowledge and skills for the community, we provided scholarships for the employees’ children as well as sponsoring seminars and workshops attended mostly by the university students and academics in Malang.

Company Fire Brigade

In another focused support to the local community, Bentoel provided our trained and skilled fire brigade, which was set up since our factories first started operating to build awareness in the surrounding areas where we operate. We shared our skills and experiences in this area by providing training programs and seminars in cooperation with relevant educational institutions. Based on request from the Local Council, our fire brigade team also serves parts of Malang city area. We will continue to improve our capability and capacity to be able to improve our service to the surrounding community and the city of Malang

Other Contributions to the Local Community

Last but not least, we also contribute to the local community through various other forms in 2009. This includes the donation of 115,000 free food packages to 86 foundations and orphanages in Malang, as well as donation of free food supply and stationary to an orphanage (Panti Asuhan Al Marwa) in Malang.

Going forward, we are confident that by becoming a part of a multinational cigarette Group, our corporate social responsbility initiatives will be more structured, comprehensive and aligned with the BAT Group’s CSR framework while still taking into account the needs of our stakeholders such as business partners, governments and the surrounding community wherever we operate
